The Big Serve

This year we are providing mission opportunities at least once per month.  Here is a list of the opportunities for 2012.
 
Memphis Union Mission
Dates:  February 4, May 5, September 8, November 3
Memphis Union Mission Arrival Time: 9:30 a.m.
Service: provide/prepare lunch, and lead chapel service
Conduct Chapel Service: 11:00 a.m.
Serve Lunch:  12:00 p.m.
Workers Needed: 35
Tour: 12:30 p.m.
Depart: 1:00 p.m.

Baptist Children’s Home
Date:  March 2
Baptist Children’s Home Arrival Time: 5:30 p.m.
Service: provide dinner, gym time, entertainment, and crafts
Dinner Provided
Workers Needed: 20
Depart: 9:00 p.m.

Boys Ranch
Date:  April 21
Boys Ranch Arrival Time: 8:30 a.m.
Service: flower beds, barn repairs, wood fence, painting, new fence built, chainsaw work, and brush cleared
Lunch Provided: Noon
Workers Needed: 40+
Depart: 1:00 p.m.

Block Party Flyers & Prayer Walk
Dates:  May 12, August 18
Neighborhood Arrival Time: 9:30 a.m.
Service: deliver block party flyers to each house and pray for each house in the neighborhood
Workers Needed: 20
Depart: 11:00 a.m.

Block Party

Dates:  May 19, August 25
Neighborhood Arrival Time: 9:30 a.m.
Service: provide games, face painting, food, and a Gospel presentation
Workers Needed: 40
Depart: 12:30 p.m.
 
Chimaltenango, Guatemala
Dates: May 24-31, 2012
Service: participants will share their faith, develop relationships, minister to many needs, do construction projects, and work in an orphanage
Participants: Adults

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Dates:  June 4-8
VBS Arrival Time: 8:30 a.m.
Workers Needed: 200

Merge
Dates:  June 25-29
Merge Arrival Time: varies by area of service
Service: recreation, concessions, bus drivers, drivers, hall monitors
Workers Needed: 250
Depart: varies by area of service

Toronto, Canada Mission Trip
Dates: July 7-14
Service: sports camp, VBS, and block party
Workers Needed: 15
Age Requirements: completed 9th grade and up
Cost: $750
*A PASSPORT is REQUIRED for this trip
**Doug will be leading this trip


Church Without Doors
Date: September 9
Service: provide food and worship service for the homeless
Workers Needed: 15
Depart FBC: 11:30 a.m.
Depart the Park: 2:30 p.m.

Judgment Day
Dates: October 27-31
Description: A walk through drama depicting life, death, the judgment, and eternal life
Purpose: Evangelism
Service: actors, fill-in actors, scene directors, hosts, tour guides, security, concession workers, greeters, hall monitors, set builders, script writers, publicity, counselors to present the gospel, first aid workers, child care workers, daily scene prep, registration workers, sound technicians
Workers Needed: 300+

The Christmas Store
Dates: Collecting (November - mid-December), December 16 for families to receive gifts
Purpose: provide gifts, food, and clothing to families of our church and community in need
Service: donate food, toys, clothing, or cash; assist families to their cars; serve lunch

  • International (International Mission Board) - Mission trips to foreign countries that involve worship teams, medical relief, construction, and evangelism.

 Local and State Missions involve:
 
  • Ministry Scholarship- Financial aid for students who are members of FBC to attend a Baptist institution offering Christian education on the university level.
  • Confidential Care for Women Counseling Services - Atoka, TN - Christian based pregnancy counseling center that also provides Bible study classes and basic child-care needs for new and expectant mothers.
  • Gideon's International - Bible distribution program for winning men, women, boys, and girls to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Mission Conference Speakers - Guest speakers may include former and/or present-time missionaries who share their experiences with the church for missions awareness.
